If one wants to eat and drink well (very inexpensive), listen to classical music or opera, or even go to a rock concert or a nightclub, then Budapest can cater to all tastes and has a huge choice to choose from, as you will find in any city of comparable size.

Hungarian wines have many award winning, delicious cabernets. If one does not have the time to taste and choose which wine to try out, a good tip would be to stick to a wine from the Villany Region, or a good Cabernet Saubignon or Chardonnay from Balaton. The prices are great value. Local beers are also of great quality and very cheap prices.

Try out the local brew, Dreher on draught. It is a nice light lager style beer that’s very popular. Also beware of the vino that is dished out to tourists that can be such undrinkable plonk, so take the advice above.

Budapest is a wonderful cosmopolitan city and a great place to sit, relax and enjoy a cold beer or nice glass of wine in good company.
