The Franz Liszt Academy of Music is where one can listen to
the Budapest Philharmonic for little or no money. It is really
great
value. Music concerts are usually playing at the Vigado Concert
Hall, even though the acoustics should be a lot better than they
are. Sometimes the concerts can be held at the Domed Hall of Parliament,
which has excellent acoustics and one can hear Bach Organ music
played superbly in the delightful Castle’s Matthias Church,
or even at the Basilica on the Pest side.
Opera can be heard at the State Opera house on the splendid Andrassy
ut, usually the opera is in Italian with Hungarian sub titles.
Also at the 3000 seater Erkel Theatre on Koztarsasag ter, near
the Keleti station there one can find an opera performance. This
theatre would concentrate more on its own Hungarian operas. The
Operatta theatre on Nagymezo utca also would have Hungarian operettas
staged here. To get your hands on these sought after tickets, one
can check the Central booking office on Vorosmarty Square to find
out the price and whether there’s any tickets left. Opera
is very popular here in the city.
